The Texas Longhorns 2005 football team represented the University of Texas at Austin during the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season, winning the Big 12 Conference championship and the national championship. The team was coached by Mack Brown, led on offense by quarterback Vince Young, and played its home games at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium.

The team’s penultimate victory of the season, the Big 12 Championship Game, featured the biggest margin of victory in the history of that contest. They finished the season by winning the 2006 Rose Bowl against the USC Trojans for the national championship. Numerous publications have cited this victory as standing among the greatest performances in college football history. And ESPN awarded the 2006 ESPY Award for the “Best Game” in any sport to the Longhorns and the Trojans. The Longhorns finished as the only unbeaten team in NCAA Division I-A football that year, with thirteen wins and zero losses.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders 2008 football team represented Texas Tech University in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was in the charge of Mike Leach. The Red Raiders played their home games at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.

With an 11–1 record in the regular season, the Red Raiders finished in a three-way tie with the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns atop the Big 12 South. In order to break the tie, BCS standings determine who would face Missouri in the conference championship game. The Sooners, ranked #2 in the BCS polls at the time, were chosen to represent the South Division in the game.

In a 2013 poll, the 2008 team was voted as the second best team in Texas Tech football history, losing to the 1973 Texas Tech Red Raiders football team by a margin of 53.2% to 46.8%. More

The Oklahoma Sooners 2015 football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2015 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the 121st season of Sooner football. The team was led by two-time Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award winner, Bob Stoops, in his 17th season as head coach. They played their home games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. They were a charter member of the Big 12 Conference.

Conference play began on October 3, 2015 with a 44–24 win against West Virginia in Norman, Oklahoma and ended with a 58–23 win against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma on November 28, 2015. Oklahoma finished conference play with an 8–1 record winning their ninth Big 12 Championship, their first since 2012.

Oklahoma was selected as the 4th seed to play in the 2015 College Football playoff against 1st seed Clemson on December 31, 2015 in the Orange Bowl which they lost 17–37. They finished the season with an 11–2 record. More
