The 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers repeated as National League champions by posting a 105–49 record, as of 2019, it is the best winning percentage in team history (.682). However, the Dodgers again failed to win the World Series, losing in six games to the New York Yankees.

The 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers were one of baseball’s greatest teams.

They lost the World Championship to the hated New York Yankees, but knowledgeable baseball fans know that the better team sometimes loses four games before they win four games.

Brooklyn’s eight starting players included Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, and Roy Campanella.

Gil Hodges, who should be in the Hall of Fame, was at first, Jim Gilliam played second, Billy Cox played third, and Carl Furillo was the right fielder.

Brooklyn won 105 games while losing only 49 (.682), finishing 13 games ahead of the runner-up Braves. They hit 208 home runs and averaged 6.16 runs a game.

On April 15, Jackie Robinson was the opening day first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers, becoming the first black player in Major League Baseball. Robinson went on to bat .297, score 125 runs, steal 29 bases and be named the very first African-American Rookie of the Year. The Dodgers won the National League title and went on to lose to the New York Yankees in the 1947 World Series. This season was dramatized in the movie 42.

In regular season. Due to the suspension of Leo Durocher for a year for “conduct detrimental to baseball”, coach Clyde Sukeforth managed the first 2 games of the season on an emergency basis, but declined to manage for the full season, so Burt Shotton took over as manager for the rest of the season.

The Brooklyn Dodgers 1955  season was contested from April 11 to October 4, 1955. It featured 16 teams, eight in the National League and eight in the American League, with each team playing a 154-game schedule. In the World Series the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 4 games to 3.

For the third consecutive season, a franchise changed homes as the Philadelphia Athletics moved to Kansas City and played their home games at Municipal Stadium.

In 1955, the Brooklyn Dodgers finally fulfilled the promise of many previous Dodger teams. Although the club had won several pennants in the past, and had won as many as 105 games in 1953, it had never won a World Series. This team finished 13.5 games ahead in the National League pennant race, leading the league in both runs scored and fewest runs allowed. In the 1955 World Series, they finally beat their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees. It was the Dodgers first and only World Series championship won while located in Brooklyn. More
